Police: Floods death toll hit 49 as 2,624 families are displaced
By Cynthia Lodite, March 10, 2026The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the number of deaths following the recent deadly floods witnessed in various parts of the country, including Nairobi city.
In a press release on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, police announced that the fatalities stand at forty-nine, with 2,624 families having been displaced from their homes.
“The National Police Service (NPS) wishes to provide an update to the public following the heavy rains and flooding affecting various parts of the country, particularly in Nairobi,” NPS said.
The new report indicates that the forty-nine people who succumbed to the floods are from various parts of the country affected by the deadly floods.
“Following the devastating rains on Friday, 6th March 2026, 49 people have unfortunately lost their lives nationwide as a result of the flooding,” NPS said.

The National Police Service has affirmed that it is in collaboration with other multi-agency response teams that remain actively deployed on the ground.
“Our officers, in collaboration with other multi-agency response teams, remain actively deployed on the ground. These joint operations are focused on conducting search and rescue missions, evacuating residents in vulnerable areas, and providing security,” NPS said.
The National Police Service has extended its deepest condolences to the families and friends who have lost loved ones during this difficult period.
Additionally, a total of 2,624 families have been displaced from their homes; likewise, infrastructure and property have also been damaged in various parts of the country, including 16 police stations that have been affected.
Nevertheless, NPS has announced that it is working to mitigate these challenges and ensure the continuous delivery of policing services to the public.

Meanwhile, as the rains persist, the National Police Service has urged all members of the public to exercise extreme caution and continue following updates and safety advisories issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department and other relevant government agencies.
