Police destroy 3,200 litres of illicit alcohol in Bungoma, Kisumu operations
Police Officers in Kisumu and Bungoma Counties have destroyed at least three thousand two hundred litres of Kangara in a multi-agency operation against illicit brews.
In a statement by the National Police Service on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the officers confirmed that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate illegal alcohol dens across various parts of the Country.
Further explaining the immediate action by the government in ensuring that those endangering lives through the illegal alcohol trade are brought to justice.
“Yesterday, a multi-agency team conducted a successful operation against illicit brews in the Mitua area of Bungoma North Sub-County, as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate illegal alcohol dens and ensure that those endangering lives through the illegal alcohol trade are brought to justice,” NPS stated.
During the operation in Bungoma County, the Officers destroyed approximately 3,200 litres of kangara.
An activity that the officers said demonstrates the scale of the problem and equally highlights the decisive stance taken by all agencies involved in dealing firmly with offenders.

On the other hand, in Kisumu County, within the Masogo area, the officers intercepted a motorcyclist who was found to be ferrying 60 litres of chang’aa intended for illegal distribution.
At the same time, the officers confirmed that the suspect abandoned the motorcycle and escaped. Further, adding that an investigation is ongoing to apprehend and arraign him.

As these operations continue in other parts of the country, Police have said that the sustained crackdown on the production, distribution, and consumption of illicit brews remains essential to safeguarding public health, reducing alcohol-related harm, and promoting safer and healthier communities.
“The National Police Service remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring public security and safety. We urge members of the public to continue reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station, via emergency numbers 999 or 911,”NPS added.
