Former Head of Government Deliver Unite Peter Mbae has lauded the efforts by senators to pursue accountability from government officials.

In a statement on his Facebook page on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the former government official singled out Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s fiery response after Defence SC Soipan Tuya failed to appear in the senate on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

“This is the kind of top-notch representation and engagement with all levels of government we require from senators. Ipo siku. Nakuru will soon be seen and heard both nationally and internationally,” he observed.

His remarks emanated from a live proceeding in a heated Senate on the floor of the house after Tuya failed to make a showing before the house to answer questions on the ongoing military recruitment in Nairobi.

Sifuna demands answers

While they failed to appear in writing through an address to the speaker, Amason Kingi, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna led the chamber’s frustrations with the trend of official snubbing of summons to appear in the chamber.

“We are not asking this for ourselves, but for the people we represent. I was waiting for her this morning; these are part of the frustration we go through as representatives of the people. We write and see no responses. Save for going to his house, I don’t know how else I am going to reach the CS,” Sifuna stated.

Sifuna decried that even after directing correspondence to alert the minister on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, she got no response from the ministry on the concerns raised.

He sought answers on why Nairobi was being discriminated against by lumping the recruitment exercise into only three centres, a move he believes would not offer a fair chance to the young people in Nairobi who boast the country’s largest batch of unemployed youths.

In Tuya’s defence, Kingi indicated that the CS had responded to inform her that she had a prior engagement in the morning, prompting her excusal from attending the chamber.

Sifuna concluded that the CS will make public when she will be present to address the matter he terms as urgent.

“Can the minister at least be courteous enough to originate correspondence to the people of Nairobi? I hope she has indicated when next she will be available so that we know when next the matter will be resolved,” he stated.
