Police in Kiambu County have arrested a person of interest linked to the trafficking of narcotics.

The National Police Service (NPS), in a statement shared via X on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, said that its officers, while conducting a crackdown in Ruaka, Kiambaa Sub-County, had arrested a man who was found in possession of 1,140 rolls of cannabis.

According to the police, the person of interest was placed in lawful custody and is undergoing processing as he awaits arraigment.

“Police officers in Kiambu County have intensified operations targeting the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard communities from the dangers associated with substance abuse,” NPS stated.

“During a crackdown conducted in the Ruaka area of Kiambaa Sub-County, officers arrested a suspect found in possession of 1,140 rolls of cannabis. The suspect was placed in police custody pending arraignment in court, while the recovered narcotics were secured as exhibits.”

The NPS further reassured the public on its commitment to fight drug trafficking, which the police say has continued to pose a serious threat to public safety.

“The National Police Service remains resolute in its efforts to combat drug trafficking and related crimes, which continue to pose a serious threat to public safety and community well-being,” the statement reads.

“Members of the public are encouraged to support law enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activities through the emergency numbers 999, 911, or 112, or via the #FichuaKwaDCI toll-free line 0800 722 203 and WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.”

Kisumu crackdown

This comes days after police officers arrested one person of interest linked to drug trafficking following an operation conducted in Kisumu.

In a statement issued via social media on Thursday, March 12, 2026, NPS said that the arrest came as the police in the region intensified operations targeting the trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs.

The officers are said to have intercepted a public service vehicle and conducted a search, leading to the discovery of two sacks of bhang concealed in the vehicle’s boot during a routine patrol in the lakeside city.

According to the officers, the intercepted consignment weighed approximately 90 kilograms and was believed to have been in transit.

“Police in Kisumu have intensified operations targeting the trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard public safety and combat substance abuse,” the NPS stated.

“During a routine patrol within the city, officers intercepted a public service vehicle and conducted a search, leading to the discovery of two sacks of bhang concealed in the vehicle’s boot. The consignment, weighing approximately 90 kilograms, is believed to have been in transit.”

Following the operation, one male person of interest, whose identity has not been revealed, was arrested and placed into custody to await arraignment.
