Passaris speaks after visiting Tuju in ICU
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has spoken out after visiting former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju at Karen Hospital, where he is receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
In a statement on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, Passaris confirmed that Tuju is under medical care and welcomed the decision to allow him access to treatment.
“This evening I visited Raphael Tuju at Karen Hospital, where he is receiving care in the ICU. I commend the decision to finally allow Tuju access to treatment. We should continue to keep him in our prayers for a full and steady recovery,” Passaris stated.
Her remarks come amid heightened public interest in Tuju’s condition following recent events surrounding his disappearance and subsequent hospitalization.

Passaris called for reflection and accountability, noting that difficult decisions often carry consequences.
“There comes a time in life when we must reflect truthfully, and be accountable,” she said.
“Decisions made in difficult moments carry consequences, and it is my hope that he is guided with sound advice, makes wise choices going forward, and prioritizes his health and peace above all else.”
She also extended her prayers to a nurse injured in the line of duty, wishing her a full recovery.
“I also pray for the nurse who was injured in the line of duty; may she recover fully,” Passaris said.
The legislator urged Kenyans to avoid politicizing the situation, emphasizing the need for calm and constructive engagement.
“Let us resist the urge to turn this into political theatre. Every challenge has a solution, even if it is not always the one we desire,” she added.
During her visit, Passaris also briefly interacted with cardiologist Dan Gikonyo, from whom she received a copy of his autobiography Doctor at Heart, and expressed gratitude for his past care.
“I had a few moments with Dr. Dan Gikonyo on my way out and received his autobiography, Doctor at Heart, which I look forward to reading,” she said.
“I remain forever indebted to Dr Dan and Dr. Betty Gikonyo for the love and exceptional care they gave my grandmother, Esther Wanjiku Joubert before she went to be with the Lord.”
Passaris concluded by extending her prayers to Tuju, his family, and others battling illness.
“My prayers remain with Raphael Tuju and his family, and with all those fighting one thing or another in and out of hospital tonight. God bless,” she concluded.
