Parliament approves appointments of CS Beatrice Moe, AG Dorcas Oduor
The National Assembly has approved the appointments of Cabinet Secretary for East African Community Affairs and Regional Development Beatrice Askul Moe and Attorney General Dorcas Oduor.
On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Parliament issued a notice that the two, nominated by President William Ruto after dissolving his cabinet on July 11, 2024, had been approved following their successful vetting by the 20-member Parliamentary Committee on Appointment.
“The National Assembly has approved the appointment of Beatrice Askul Moe as the Cabinet Secretary for East African Community Affairs and Regional Development and Dorcas Agik Odhong Oduor as the Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya,” a statement by the National Assembly, posted on X, read.
The two await their gazettement by President Ruto ahead of their swearing-in at State House.
Oduor is set on a path to become the country’s first female Attorney General after serving as the secretary of prosecutions at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP).
Askul on the other hand, comes to the influential ministry from her service as the County Executive Committee member for Water, Irrigation and Agriculture in Turkana County.
The two were vetted by the National Assembly on August 9, 2024, before the committee went to deliberate on their performance.
Their approval comes just days after Ruto presided over the swearing-in of 19 other Cabinet Secretaries at the State House.
They include Kithure Kindiki (Interior and National Administration), Soipan Tuya (Defence), John Mbadi (National Treasury), Justin Muturi (Public Service), Aden Duale (Environment, Climate Change and Forestry), Alice Wahome (Lands), Julius Ogamba (Education), Davis Chirchir (Transport), Rebecca Miano (Tourism and Wildlife), Hassan Joho (Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs) and Alfred Mutua (Labour and Social protection).
The others are Eric Muuga (Water and Sanitation), Salim Mvurya (Investment, Trade and Industry), Debra Barasa (Health) and Kipchumba Murkomen (Youth Affairs and Sports), Opiyo Wandayi (Energy), Margaret Nyambura (ICT and Digital Economy), Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives) and Andrew Karanja (Agriculture and Livestock Development).
