Former Kanduyi MP and Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) chairman Wafula Wamunyinyi has explained why he is at the centre of organising the homecoming ceremony for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in Bungoma County despite belonging to a different political party.

Speaking during a press briefing in his constituency on Friday, July 17, 2026, the outspoken DAP-K chairman defended his involvement, saying both the Linda Mwananchi movement and DAP-K are united by a common objective of ensuring President William Ruto does not secure a second term in the 2027 general election.

Wamunyinyi said there was nothing unusual about him helping organise Sifuna’s homecoming, arguing that the opposition formations are working together towards the same political agenda.

“Wengine wanauliza ati mbona Wamunyinyi anapanga homecoming ya Sifuna na ako kwa chama ya DAP-K. Yote ni moja tu. Sote tunasema wantam,” he said.

Wamunyinyi warns MP Barasa

This also comes days after he accused Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa of planning to disrupt the homecoming ceremony of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna at Posta Grounds in Bungoma on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

Speaking during an event in Kanduyi Constituency on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the outspoken politician, who also serves as the chairman of the Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K), claimed that while seeking a permit from the county commissioner to book the venue, he was informed that the Kimilili lawmaker had also applied for a permit to hold a political event on the same day at a venue located a short distance from Posta Grounds.

“When I was preparing to host Edwin Sifuna for his homecoming, I was informed by the county commander that Didmus Barasa had also requested a permit from the police to hold a separate rally just a few metres from our venue on the same day. The last time, he disrupted our event. This time, we will not allow him to do so,” Wamunyinyi claimed.

Wamunyinyi warned that the MP’s plans would not succeed. He accused the Kimilili lawmaker of using similar tactics in the past, citing recent funerals where, according to him, the MP would leave after Edwin Sifuna arrived, taking with him a sizeable number of supporters.

The former MP maintained that Kanduyi is Sifuna’s home turf and insisted that nobody would be allowed to disrupt the senator’s homecoming rally.
