Parliament approves appointment of former CS Karanja, Ababu Namwamba and Noor Gabow
The Parliamentary Committee on Appointments has approved the nomination of Andrew Karanja, Ababu Namwamba and Noor Yarow Gabow for various diplomatic positions.
On Thursday, January 16, 2025, the National Assembly issued a notice that the three nominated by President William Ruto had been approved following their successful vetting by the members of the Parliamentary Committee on Appointment.
“The National Assembly has approved the appointment of 3 persons for various diplomatic offices, Dr Andrew Karanja as Ambassador, Brasilia, Brazil, Hon. Ababu Namwamba as Permanent Representative of Kenya to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)/United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) and Mr, Noor Yarow Gabow as Consul General Port au Prince, Haiti,” a statement by the National Assembly, posted on X, read.
Other approvals
Their approval comes hours after the Committee okayed the nomination of Mutahi Kagwe, William Kabogo and Lee Kinyanjui for appointment as Cabinet Secretaries following the Cabinet reshuffle.
The president nominated Mutahi Kagwe to take up the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, William Kabogo to the Ministry of Information, Communication and Digital Economy and Lee Kinyanjui to head the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industries.
“Pursuant to the provisions of Article 152 (2) of the constitution and Section 3 (8) of the Public Appointments Parliamentary Approvals Act, this House approves the appointment of the following persons as Cabinet secretaries; Mutahi Kagwe, in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, William Kabogo in the Information, Communication and Digital Economy, Lee Kinyanjui to the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industries,” National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah said.
The committee also approved the appointment of Mary Wanjira Kimonye – Vice-Chairperson, Harun Maalim Hassan, Mwanamaka Amani Mabruki, Francis Meja ,Dr. Irene Cherotich Asiega , Boya Molu, Joan Andisi Machayo and Dr. Francis Otieno Owino as members
The committee also approved the nomination of Mary Wanjira Kimonye as Vice-Chairperson in the Public Service Commission while Harun Maalim Hassan, Mwanamaka Amani Mabruki, Francis Meja , Dr. Irene Cherotich Asiega ,Boya Molu , Joan Andisi Machayo and Dr. Francis Otieno Owino as members of the commission.
The approval by the committee paves the way for a debate in Parliament before approving and presenting the names to President Ruto for appointment.
Cabinet reshuffle
On December 19, 2024, as part of a cabinet reshuffle, Salim Mvurya was moved to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports.
Previously serving as the Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry, this new role positions Mvurya to further President Ruto’s vision for youth empowerment and sports development.
Furthermore, Kipchumba Murkomen was transferred from the Ministry of Sports to the Ministry of Interior.
