Hundreds of Parents of Kapsamich primary in Chepkorio area, Elgeyo Marakwet County staged a demonstration on Saturday to protest the alleged grabbing of a section of the public school land by a private developer.

They claimed that the developer was determined to take over a section of the school land where the classroom that hosts Early Child Development Education learners stands.

According to one of the school’s Parents and Teachers Association members Naomi Tarus, the school which sits on about five-acre land is situated in an area where an acre goes for about Sh1.2 million.

The placard carrying parents have accused a former influential senior chief of colluding with the developer from Uasin Gishu county to deprive the school of a section of the prime two-acre piece of land where the nurs[1]ery school section stands.

Brandishing tree branches, the parents chanted, “President Ruto saidia Kapsambich” as they matched along the route leading to the disputed two-acre land that is adjacent to the primary school section.

Caroline Chebet, another parent of the school, claimed that those eyeing the land where learners of lower primary school are learning wants to sell it to the highest bidder.

The school management, she added, has plans to expand the classrooms on the disputed piece of land in the wake of rising numbers of pupils from within and the neighboring areas.

According to Chebet, the school would not have a place to build additional classrooms for ECD learners should the land fall into the hands of private developers.

“We were surprised to see an individual who claimed that he comes from the neighbouring Uasin Gishu County laying claim to a two-acre piece of land where the nursery school section is standing despite the fact that we have all the documents for the entire school land,” added another Moses Chepkoech.

He has now appealed to the EACC North Rift regional office to investigate the activities of the former chief with a view to bringing to book those involved in a racket to dispossess public learning institutions of their property
