Our candidate is here – One Kenya Alliance dispels talk of possible union with Raila

By , August 17, 2021

Leaders of the One Kenya Alliance have dispelled talk and rumors hinting of a possible union with ODM leader Raila Odinga ahead of the August 2022 polls.

In a statement the leaders issued on Tuesday, August 17 at Naivasha, the four principals comprising of ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka, KANU’s Gideon Moi and FORD Kenya’s Moses Wetangula stated that one among them will be One Kenya Alliance’s (OKA)presidential flag bearer at next year’s general elections.

“As the “GREAT RIFT VALLEY DECLARATION”, we hereby unequivocally state that One Kenya Alliance will field a presidential candidate in next year’s general elections. And the candidate is here,” the leaders said.

While noting that the Court of Appeal ruling on BBI would not go well with a section of Kenyans, OKA was quick to note that it will accept the decision by the courts adding that the alliance believes in the rule of law.

“As an alliance that believes in the rule of law, we shall accept and respect the verdict of the courts. Irrespective of the outcome, we wish to restate that our resolve is to be the leadership committed to seeing a one united Kenya,” OKA said.

The announcement by OKA on its preparation for 2022 polls comes after Jubilee’s National Management Committee (NMC) approved of a pre-election deal with ODM.

According to pundits, the agreement by Jubilee was spearheaded by the existing good relationship between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the ODM chief as well as that of MPs from both political parties.

“It is noteworthy that in the last four years, while ODM has carried its mandate as official opposition party in both the Senate and the National Assembly, the party has remained a reliable ally to Jubilee Party in the passage of all critical bills that are important for the good governance of our country,” Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju said.

In it’s Tuesday press conference, OKA further called on President Uhuru to streamline the fight against corruption ensuring those responsible for plundering the nation are brought to book.

“What we require as a country is to intensify the war against graft in order to salvage public resources diverted for personal gains and channel them to spur our economy

“As an Alliance that firmly believes in zero tolerance to corruption, we call on President Uhuru Kenyatta to unleash the full wrath of the law and rid our national leadership of people with a strong affinity for plunder,” OKA said.
