Vihiga governor Dr Wilber Ottichilo has vowed to restore the depleted Maragoli forest before the end of his second term in office.

Ottichilo while addressing locals when he led them in planting trees at the Maragoli forest said already, his efforts of reforesting the Maragoli Hills are yielding fruits.

“You have all witnessed my efforts to restore Maragoli Hills forest are bearing fruits and in the next ten years to come, Maragoli Hills forest will have reclaimed its forest cover,” said the governor.

Ottichilo asked residents living near Maragoli Hills forest to help officers from the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) to protect the forest.

Climate change

Ottichilo at the same time asked residents to embrace a culture of protecting the environment, particularly by planting trees to help mitigate the effects being caused by climate change, noting that “the negative impacts of climate change are posing a big threat to biodiversity in the world.”
