Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has issued a stark warning that Kenya risks paying a heavy price if corruption continues to be treated as politics-as-usual, calling for accountability at the highest levels of leadership and stronger action by state institutions.

In a statement posted on his official X account on Saturday, December 27, 2025, Omtatah said the country was at a defining moment, arguing that the choices made now would determine the strength or decline of the Republic.

“Kenya stands at a crossroads. We can continue normalising corruption as politics-as-usual, or we can insist that public office is a public trust, not a private entitlement,” Omtatah stated.

Call for accountability

The Senator called on citizens to demand that corruption prosecutions are pursued to their conclusion, rather than being abandoned or compromised along the way.

Omtatah also urged institutions to defend the Constitution without fear or favour, emphasising that principled enforcement of the law is essential for national progress.

“As citizens, we must demand prosecutions that go the distance. As institutions, we must defend the Constitution without fear or favour,” he said.

Strengthening the nation

The Busia Senator emphasised that holding powerful individuals accountable for corruption actually strengthens the country rather than weakening it.

“As a nation, we must remember this simple truth: when the mighty are held to account, the Republic grows stronger,” Omtatah stated.

He warned that Kenya faces serious consequences if it continues to ignore the lessons of corruption and impunity.

“Kenya must learn or pay the price of refusing to learn,” the Senator concluded.
