Ogamba welcomes alliance with Malaysia to boost education sector

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, on Monday, November 24, 2025, lauded the Prime Minister of Malaysia for the country’s steadfast commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Kenya in the higher education sector.

Speaking today at the Malaysian–African Education Forum 2025, Ogamba emphasised that Malaysia’s progressive education model and strategic collaboration with African nations are paving the way for a new era of academic excellence and innovation.

In his remarks, Ogamba recognised the Malaysian government’s continued support in expanding opportunities for Kenyan students and institutions through scholarships, technical training, research partnerships and exchange programmes.

Kenya celebrates the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister of Malaysia and welcomes Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to working with African countries to elevate higher education standards.

This partnership is not only transforming our institutions but also empowering our youth with global competencies,” Ogamba said.

He highlighted Malaysia’s strides in emerging technologies, digital learning infrastructure and applied research, noting that Kenya stands to benefit significantly from enhanced cooperation in science, technology, engineering and innovation-driven fields.

Ogamba also reiterated Kenya’s readiness to deepen collaboration in university linkages, credit transfer systems, vocational training and joint research initiatives aimed at addressing continental challenges such as climate change, food security and digital transformation.

“As a nation, we look forward to scaling up shared programmes that promote skills development, cultural exchange and knowledge transfer.

“Our engagement with Malaysia will continue to support Kenya’s vision of building a globally competitive and sustainable higher education ecosystem,” he added.

The Malaysian–African Education Forum 2025 brings together leaders, policymakers, scholars and development partners committed to advancing education cooperation between Malaysia and African nations.

The forum continues to serve as a platform for dialogue, partnership development and exploring avenues for strengthening cross-border academic collaboration.
