Kenya Prisons Service Senior Sergeant believed to be behind a Sh200 million con syndicate yesterday surrendered to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Grace Nyamohanga alias Nasra, surrendered to the detectives at the Serious Crimes Unit and is expected to appear in court today with her two accomplices who were arrested on Saturday.

DCI boss George Kinoti said the suspect is believed to be in-charge of a wide syndicate that has swindled Kenyans hundreds of millions of shillings on fake promises of being offered jobs.

“The suspect surrendered herself to Serious Crime detectives at DCI headquarters this afternoon.

She is currently being processed to appear in court tomorrow, to answer to various charges including obtaining money by false pretenses, forgery and money laundering,” the DCI said.

Detectives arrested two suspects on Saturday and recovered several exhibits, including fake offer letters, in the  residence at the Industrial Area staff quarters.

The suspects purported to recruit jobseekers from all levels of education and academic disciplines.  In January, the DCI revealed the suspects had issued 60  fake letters of appointment by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).

The victims reportedly parted with between Sh300,000 and Sh400,000 each. The fraudsters even took the job-seekers to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport ostensibly to familiarise with their new work environment before reporting to work on March 18. That was, however, the last time they heard from the suspects.

One of the victims is a woman who was reportedly swindled of more than Sh800,000 with the promise that her three children would be offered jobs at the National Hospital Insurance Fund, Nairobi Metropolitan Services and the Kenya Ports Authority.
