The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has vowed to support victims of protest by lodging their claims with Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).

In a Press Release on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, the ODM Deputy Party Leader Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir welcomed the update by KNCHR on the compensation framework.

“The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) welcomes the communiqué issued by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) regarding the ongoing development of a national framework for compensation and reparations to victims of human rights violations,” Abdullswamad said.

On his part, the ODM leader, who is also the Mombasa Governor, affirmed ODM’s move to establish structured support mechanisms that will assist victims and their families in lodging their claims with KNCHR.

Further adding that the support shall include community outreach, awareness forums, and facilitation support to ensure that documentation requirements and reporting processes do not become barriers to justice.

“To this end, we will work closely with the ODM Youth League in Mombasa and across the wider Coast region to establish structured support mechanisms that will assist victims and their families in lodging their claims with KNCHR. This will include community outreach, awareness forums, and facilitation support to ensure that documentation requirements and reporting processes do not become barriers to justice,” he added.

Abdullswamad noted that as ODM leadership in the Coast region, the party will fully support the initiative and reaffirm ODM’s commitment to ensuring that affected individuals and families are not left behind in this process.

“We are particularly keen to ensure that victims of protest-related violations, many of whom are young people, are adequately supported and represented. No Kenyan should be denied justice because they lack information, resources, or access,” he explained.

He further urged the National Treasury and Parliament to expedite the allocation and disbursement of funds required for the process, explaining that a credible reparations framework must be backed by adequate resources if it is to inspire public confidence and deliver meaningful outcomes.

“As ODM, we remain steadfast in our belief in the rule of law, human dignity, and accountability. We will continue to stand with victims, amplify their voices, and support every effort aimed at securing justice and preventing the recurrence of such violations,” he added.
