As the campaigns for the ODM Homa Bay branch chairperson’s intensify, the party has rubbished the appointment of Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang as the interim chairman. Through its twitter handle, the party flagged a letter dated August 14 and purportedly signed by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna as “FAKE”

 The letter reads in part…”The ODM is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Moses Kajwang’ as the Interim Chairman of ODM for Homa Bay County.” “This appointment follows the elevation of Hon Gladys Wanga to the position of National Chair leaving the Homa Bay Chairmanship vacant,” reads the letter.

 “Hon. Kajwang, a dedicated and long serving member of ODM will assume this leadership role immediately. His appointment reaffirms the party’s commitment to strong effective leadership at all levels,” the letter adds. Sifuna confirmed the said letter as “FAKE”

 The campaigns for the position which has been left vacant by Wanga who was eelvated to the chairperson position is already heating up with various party followers drumming up support for their preferred candidates.

 In the new changes announced by Sifuna, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and Governors Simba Arati (Kisii) and Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir (Mombasa) were made deputy party leaders, a decision made to calm growing tensions.

 “As you may have noticed, the Central Committee has proposed three names for Deputy Party Leader. We will be making a recommendation to the National Executive Council and the National Governing Council to make the necessary changes to our constitution to reflect this,” Sifuna said in a press statement, adding the party positions had attracted immense interest.

 Despite not coming out openly to show their interest in the County’s party top seat, supporters of Kajwang, Homa Bay Town MP Opondo Kaluma, Ndhiwa MP Martin Owino, his Karachuonyo counterpart Adipo Okwome,and Ong’ondo Were have come out in support of their candidatures.
