ODM party led by Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has come out strongly to condemn the ugly act practiced by some of rowdy residents in Migori County towards businessman Jimi Wanjigi.

This is after some reports emerged that Jimmy Wanjigi who is eyeing to compete against Raila Odinga for ODM party presidential ticket got stoned in Migori County while trying to address the public.

“We have learnt of the unfortunate incidents of violence in Migori involving Jimmy Wanjigi. The Party takes this early opportunity to condemn the incidents and urge for tolerance and accommodation of every political view. We urge Police in Migori to ensure culprits are brought to book,” Sifuna said.

Sifuna further said he is in contact with the ODM office in Migori to establish a full brief on the reported case, which, he said, will be in due time.

“My office is in contact with the office in Migori for a full brief on reported cases of violence targeted at one of our members, Wanjigi. I have also tried to reach Wanjigi on phone to confirm he is OK. Full brief to follow,” Sifuna said.

His sentiments come hours after Wanjigi’s convoy was pelted with stones by an angry mob on Friday during his tour in Migori County, Nyanza region.

The Presidential hopeful was forced to cut short his speech after angry youths jeered him from the left side of his motorcade.

Trouble began when Wanjigi while addressing the residents of Migori on his day 2 of the Nyanza tour campaigned on a platform dubbed ‘fagia wote’.

However, a section of the youths present seemed unhappy with the statement as they hurled stones towards Wanjigi and his motorcade, forcing him to duck for safety.

Nyanza is said to be the political ground associated to ODM party leader Raila Odinga and the youths accused Wanjigi of disrespecting their leader.

Wanjigi would re-emerge through his social media accounts, posting photos of him meeting the people of Rongo in Migori County.

“Meeting the people of Rongo in Migori County, and they’re ready for a new Kenya,” Wanjigi said

Wanjigi has declared his interest in vying for the presidential seat come 2022 and has been traversing the country in a bid to woo the electorate.
