Ocean water to treat ‘red eye’
By Boniface Msangi, February 6, 2024Mombasa residents infected with the ‘red eye’ disease wash their face with salty sea water at the Likoni Ferry channel as a local remedy to treat the disease caused by Eldeno virus.
County data indicates that more than 1,000 people, a majority of them children, have been infected. Ministry of Health has advised affected persons not to use self-remedies but to stick to medical prescriptions.
Dr Patrick Amoth, the acting director-general, MoH, urges those with the symptoms—which include redness, discharge, swelling and bleeding—to see the doctor, immediately.
