Elijah Obebo was yesterday sworn in as the third deputy governor for Kisii County since the advent of devolution.
Obebo who was sworn in at Gusii Stadium by Justice Anne Ong’injo takes over from Dr Robert Monda who was impeached.
Speaking after taking the oath of office, Obebo pledged to work hard to ensure Governor Simba Arati delivers on the pledges he made to the electorate.
The DG, who previously chaired the County Public Service Board (CPSB) also pledged to help the governor fight corruption.
“I resonate well with your stance on zero tolerance to corruption and prudent use of public resources,” Obebo told the governor.
He said the board had achieved a lot during his term as the chairman, thanks to Arati’s support and leadership.
“To those naysayers Your Excellency, let them take notice that your government shall deliver quality services to residents,” said Obebo.
To deliver services
Arati, accompanied by County Assembly Speaker, Dr Philip Nyanumba, his Deputy Jacob Bagaka, Majority leader Henry Moracha, County Secretary Robert Ombasa and legal advisor, George Morara told Obebo to work towards delivering services to residents and fight corruption.
He told county staff to work closely with the Obebo.
Arati at the same time told Gen Z youths to embrace peaceful demonstrations and not allow strangers to infiltrate their protests to loot and destroy other peoples’ properties.
“As you go to the streets to protest, do not burn roads. People have put a lot of effort to construct roads and it will be wrong to destroy them,” Arati said.
Former Constitution Implementation Commission (CIC) chairman Charles Nyachae who attended the function expressed confidence that Obebo will help Arati steer the county to greater heights.
He appealed to residents to support the governor so that he could fulfil the pledges he made during campaigns in the last general election.
Kisii Governor Simba Arati nominated Elijah Obebo to the position of Deputy Governor, following the removal of Robert Monda from office. This was after the Kisii County Assembly approved his removal from office.
The Senate found the former Nyaribari Chache MP guilty of all the offences levelled against him.
