The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced a change in its nationwide recruitment schedule for volunteer servicemen and servicewomen.

The recruitment, originally slated for Friday, March 20, has now been postponed to Saturday, March 21, 2026.

In a notice on Thursday, March 19, 2026, NYS said the postponement is a result of the public holiday declared by the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration in observance of the holy month of Ramadhan (Eid al-Fitr).

“Following the gazette notice declaring Friday a public holiday, all recruitment activities initially scheduled for Friday, 20th March 2026, have been rescheduled to Saturday, 21st March 2026.

“All prospective candidates are advised to take note of the change and present themselves at their respective recruitment centres on the revised dates. We appreciate your understanding and continued commitment to servicing the nation,” the service said.

The NYS recruitment drive, described as a massive nationwide exercise, is aimed at enlisting young Kenyans as volunteer servicemen and servicewomen ready to serve the nation.

According to the NYS, successful candidates will undergo rigorous paramilitary training as part of their preparation for national service.

The state corporation had earlier issued an advertisement on MyGov on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, highlighting the recruitment schedule across Kenyan counties. The exercise runs from Monday, March 16, to Saturday, March 21, beginning daily at 8:00 a.m.

“The Kenya National Youth Service (NYS) wishes to inform the general public that a nationwide recruitment exercise for NYS volunteers (male and female) will be conducted throughout the republic from Monday, March 16, to Saturday, March 21, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily,” the notice read.

Prospective volunteers are advised to report to their designated recruitment centres promptly and bring all necessary documentation as outlined in the NYS recruitment guidelines. The postponement applies only to Friday, March 20, 2026, with all other dates of the recruitment drive remaining unchanged.

This recruitment initiative aligns with the NYS mandate to engage youth in national development while equipping them with essential skills in leadership, discipline, and civic responsibility.

NYS has encouraged all eligible Kenyans to participate and contribute to nation-building through structured volunteer service.
