A section of football stakeholders in the country have described the Football Kenya (FKF) County elections held last weekend as a sham to be treated with the contempt it deserves.

Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Sam Nyamweya, who is the stakeholders’ representative, said the decision by the current regime led by Nick Mwendwa to hold the election is an illegality since litigation filed by stakeholders contesting it set to be determined by the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) tomorrow.

Defying state

“We the stakeholders cautioned FKF against holding an election whose matter is before the SDT and is set for determination on March 17.

By FKF proceeding with the purported elections is in itself an abuse of the tribunal process and borders on contempt and perjury,’’ said Nyamweya.

In a statement, Nyamweya vilified FKF for what he said was going against the government’s directive not to hold public gathering following the coronavirus.

“Further, FKF is in violation of the government of Kenya order ban on all public gatherings and purporting to continue and conduct the said elections, the federation not only went against the government order but potentially exposed the voters and the general public to danger and should be charged for violating the public health order act and as guided by the Cabinet Secretary for Health,” he added.

On the county elections, Nyamweya said the exercise has exposed the rot in the federation and its appendage, the Electoral Board due to glaring flaws
