Nyahururu police seize 15 litres of illicit brew in public tip-off operation
By Kiprono Keileb, September 18, 2025Police in Nyahururu, Laikipia County, have intensified their crackdown on illegal alcohol following a tip-off from vigilant residents that led to the seizure of 15 litres of chang’aa.
According to the National Police Service (NPS) post on X on Thursday, September 17, 2025, the operation took place on September 17, 2025, when officers from Nyahururu Police Station acted promptly on information provided by members of the public.
“On 17 September 17 2025, police officers from Nyahururu Police Station, acting on a tip-off from members of the public, arrested one suspect in possession of fifteen (15) litres of chang’aa,” NPS said in a statement.
The suspect was immediately taken to Nyahururu Police Station for further processing and is expected to face court proceedings soon.

“The suspect was escorted to the station for processing and subsequent arraignment in court. The fifteen litres of chang’aa were secured as an exhibit,” the statement added.
This arrest underscores the role of community engagement in combating illegal activities. Authorities thanked residents who reported the offence and called on others to remain vigilant. “We thank members of the public for their cooperation and urge them to continue reporting such illegal activities. Reports can be made to the nearest police station,” NPS stated.
Illicit brews like chang’aa have long posed health and safety risks in many counties across Kenya, contributing to poisoning incidents, accidents, and other social issues. The Nyahururu operation demonstrates a concerted effort by police to curb the production and distribution of such dangerous substances.

Officers say that public participation is crucial in tracking and eliminating illegal alcohol operations, particularly in areas where clandestine brewing is common. The NPS continues to call on citizens to provide timely information to ensure swift action against offenders.
This latest action is part of broader law enforcement initiatives across Laikipia County to maintain public safety and enforce regulations related to alcohol consumption and distribution. Police have reassured the public that any illegal activity, no matter how small, will be investigated and addressed in accordance with the law.
The NPS emphasised that vigilance, cooperation, and timely reporting are key to successfully addressing illegal brews and ensuring the safety of communities.
