ODM grassroot elections

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is today, November 27, 2024, holding its much-awaited grassroot elections.

The opposition party which is in a broad-government arrangement with President William Ruto’s administration, in the guidelines released on Tuesday, November 26, indicated that all polling stations would be opened by 10:00 am.

Presiding officers will then inform the members of how the elections will be conducted.

ODM informed its members that the elections would be through consensus or through voting by showing hands.

“The Presiding Officer to confirm party members by keying their Identity Card numbers in the system. Only registered party members whose details will be verified in the system will be eligible to vote. The exercise will be conducted by the Presiding Officers and end at 2:00 pm,” ODM’s statement read in part.

“Candidates for the various positions in the elections have up to midnight today (Tuesday 26/11/24) to register through the portal. They must submit all their details plus the position they are contesting at that level (Polling Centre). They will then be allowed to contest,” it added.

Graft cases in court

Two graft cases will today be brought up in court for hearing and mention.

They are charged with conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption.

Allegations against them relate to the embezzlement of Ksh441.4 million fraudulently paid as salaries and gratuity to persons purportedly employed by National Museums of Kenya.

A case involving Amos Kabue Mwangi and six others will also be brought up for mention at the Milimani Anti-Corruption court.

They are charged with fraudulently making payments from public revenue for goods not supplied and unlawful acquisition of public property.

Allegations relate to irregular payment of Ksh201.1 million by the Kenya School of Law to various companies that neither rendered any services nor delivered goods.

Africa Women’s Handball Championship

The 2024 Africa Women’s Handball Championship will kick off today in DR Congo.

Kenya’s Women’s National Team will be facing one of the tournament’s favorites, Senegal, in what promises to be a thrilling start.

The match marks the beginning of the World Championships qualifiers, adding extra significance to the competition for the Kenyan team.

Co-coaches Ochieng Oduol and Jack Herbert have steered the team through rigorous preparations, and despite being placed in a tough Group B alongside Senegal, Cape Verde, Algeria, Egypt, and hosts DR Congo, there is a sense of confidence in the camp.

“We have prepared adequately and gone through the paces and formations with the girls. We believe the team is prepared to do duty for the country, and the aim is to reach the quarters and plan from there.

“Since this is also a qualifier for the World Championships, we want to finish in the top five to earn a spot at next year’s World Championships in Germany and the Netherlands,” Herbert remarked.
