Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.

Reactions to calls to appoint Raila

A section of Members of Parliament have continued to call for the absorption of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga into government after he lost the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship bid.

Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei has been leading the calls to have Raila appointed. Speaking in Kapsabet town, Nandi County, on February 22, 2025, while distributing training kits to local football and volleyball teams, Cherargei argued that Raila’s experience and leadership would help President William Ruto deliver on his agenda.

He emphasized the need for the full implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, which he believes should pave the way for Raila’s return to government.

“We want Raila to return now. I have said the NADCO report must be fully implemented. We want Raila to come back to his former Prime Minister position and continue with his work,” Cherargei stated.

Mixed reactions on Cherargei’s calls are expected to come from both the opposition and government-allied politicians.

Politicians in churches

Political figures are set to flock to various churches across the country for worship.

As per the norm, they will take to the church pulpit to react to various issues of national interest. Those in opposition are expected to press the government more as they push for service delivery, whilst those allied to the ruling Kenya Kwanza government will be expected to defend the head of state against criticism.
