No public holiday on October 28, says Matiang’i

By , October 25, 2019

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has dismissed claims that he has gazetted October 28 as a public holiday as Hindus and Sikhs mark Diwali.

Matiang’i on Friday dismissed as “fake” a gazette notice that was doing rounds on social media.

“Kindly ignore a gazette notice circulating on social media claiming Monday 28th October 2019 to be a public holiday,” the ministry said in a tweet that included a photo of the purported notice.

The CS asked Kenyans to ignore the fake circular and report to work as usual on Monday.

Some Kenyans had started making plans on how to celebrate the ‘holiday’, which comes just after Moi Day and Mashujaa Day.
