No cause of alarm, we are getting better by the day: Kimanzi

Harambee Stars head coach Francis Kimanzi remains unfazed after the 1-0 loss to Mozambique in a international friendly build-up match on Sunday, as he prepares to face angry Pharaoh Warriors next month in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Group G qualifier in Cairo, Egypt.

Kimanzi who is yet to win with the national team after two matches since he took charge of the team, put up a brave face and remained confident of picking results in near future.

First on cards will be the seething Pharaohs who owe their fans answers having failed to reach quarter-finals of this year’s continental showpiece on home soil. They fell to South Africa in the last 16 knock-out round in unexpected turn of events.

A number of reorganizations within the Egyptian Football Association and the technical bench show how serious the Egyptians are going into the qualifiers.

“We have what it takes to deliver another Cup of Nations finals ticket and that is exactly what we are going to try and achieve. Having tested different players in the two international friendly matches we will consolidate the best in each position and go to Egypt with equal chances of winning,” a confident Kimanzi said after the game when asked about Kenya’s chances against Egypt.

Kimanzi also suggested that results against Mozambique were not a reflection of where Kenya is football wise. He believes the country has grown by empowering more players to take up national duty through the call ups for the two friendly games.

“I’m not disappointed about the result. We played well and tried out new players but we did not utilize our chances. In the end we got punished when a very young and inexperienced player made a mistake. But that is what you expect from young inexperienced players. They learn from such situations and get better,” Kimanzi said of Joseph Okumu’s error that resulted in Mozambique’s goal at Kasarani.
