Bahati MP Irene Njoki has denied interfering with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to favour her election into office on August 9, 2022.

Njoki who was replying to a suit by Kimani Ngunjiri challenging her election, stated that she successfully contested and won, and was duly declared winner legally.

Ngunjiri had moved to court seeking a nullification of the Bahati Parliamentary elections and has sued Njoki, the IEBC and Bahati constituency Returning Officer (RO) George Karani.  The former MP in suit papers before Justice Rose Oungo revealed that the elections were marred with irregularities and illegalities and he is seeking fresh elections.

However, Njoki in her response yesterday termed the claims by Ngunjiri as misleading insisting that the election was conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.

She has denied bribing voters, Presiding Officers and clerks to favour her election saying the tally was accurate, credible, transparent and verifiable.

Ngunjiri wants a declaration that Njoki was not validly elected as MP since there were malpractices, non- compliance, irregularities, illegalities and improprieties in the election influencing results.
