“Thankfully, there are no casualties; however, the Loita dormitory sustained destruction. School authorities and security teams remain on site conducting investigations and overseeing student safety and welfare,” he added.

Ledama stated that school administrators, security officers and other relevant agencies stayed on the scene after the fire to ensure the safety of the students and their welfare and to begin investigations into the cause of the fire.

The senator has assured parents and members of the community that all the students are safe and are doing everything they can to meet the needs of those affected by the Loita dormitory’s destruction.

An investigation is continuing to determine what caused the fire.

The incident comes days after the Kenya Red Cross confirmed another fire outbreak at Tarakwo High School in Bomet County on the night of Monday, June 1, 2026. The inferno at Eor Ekule Secondary School is the sixth school fire incident reported in the country since the tragic blaze at Utumishi Girls’ Academy that claimed the lives of 16 students on Friday, May 28, 2026.

In a statement on their X handle on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the Kenya Red Cross Society confirmed the fifth fire outbreak in schools since the deadly Utumishi Girls Academy fire, saying that the number of schools affected by fire in 2026 alone had hit 37.
