New Meru governor reveals jobs plans for Gen Zs and youths
By Luke Oluoch, March 17, 2025The new Meru governor Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia has made a passionate plea to the youths of the region alerting them to job opportunities in the digital space.
Mutuma, who previously served as Meru’s Deputy Governor to Kawira Mwangaza, and sworn in as the county’s new governor pledged on Monday, March 17 during his inauguration.
During the event held at Mwendatu grounds, the governor revealed his plans to boost the young population’s uptake of jobs by equipping them with skills need to sail the digital world.
Digital jobs
“To our young people, the tech-savvy generation. Gen Zs mko! I hear you and I see you. The world is changing rapidly and we must promptly adjust to the changes. I’ll create program that help you develop skills you need for the future such as jobs in artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics and the digital economy. I will also ensure that you not only have the training but also tools to thrive in this digital world,” he said.
The former Kenya Prisons officer said he would leverage the region’s vast tourism sector which he claims has suffered huge neglected. He further pledged to ensure the youths gain necessary skills for through relevant training.
Boosting tourism
“To achieve this we take advantage of digital incubation herb launched by the national government. Meru is blessed with natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. However, many tourism sites are underutilized. My government will rehabilitate and market these sites to create jobs for the you,” he stated.
In a bid to promote the community’s cultural heritage, the governor announced plans for auditions for a brand new Ameru anthem along with the observance of an annual cultural day.
“For too long the People of Meru have been wrongly accused of lacking our own songs, but that is far from the truth. My government will support local artists to identify and nurture new talents. In this regard, I will soon call upon call upon the Meru artiste to compose a new Ameru anthem and we will hold auditions for this exciting project,” he said.
The new governor also expressed his commitment to serve the people of Meru, stressing that integrity and dedication will be foremost in the conduct of the county affairs under his tenure.
Bright future
“I am overwhelmed by your love, support and enthusiasm. Your presence here and the celebrations that broke out in all parts of the county are a clear indication of the confidence you have in me. I promise not to let you down,” Mutuma stated.
“I am aware that we face many challenges and I am here not to make grand promises but to offer you servant leadership, commitment to unity and dedication to working hand in hand with all of you to build a brighter future for Meru,” he pledged.
