National Treasury announces 3-day public hearings for FY 2026/27 and medium-term budget
The National Treasury has announced dates for the public sector hearings on the proposed 2026/27 Financial Year and Medium-Term Budget, which will run from Wednesday, 19, to Friday, 21, November 2025.
Scheduled to take place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), the hearings will start at 8:30 a.m. daily. According to the notice released on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the hearings are part of the government’s constitutional responsibility to promote transparency and public participation in the national budgeting process.
Constitutional threshold
Ahead of the launch, the exercise is guided by Article 201(a) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, and Section 36 of the Public Finance Management Act (Cap. 412A), which requires the government to engage citizens before finalising the budget.

The official launch of the initiative will be on Wednesday by John Mbadi, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury. Senior officials from the Treasury, the State Department for Economic Planning, and representatives from Parliament’s Budget and Appropriations Committee are also expected to deliver key remarks.
Day 1: Wednesday, November 19, 2025
The opening day begins with arrival and registration at 8:30 am, followed by opening remarks from top Treasury officials and development partners. The highlight will be the keynote address and official launch by the Cabinet Secretary.
From 9:50 am to 10:30 am, the Macro & Fiscal Affairs Department will present the Macro-Economic Outlook for FY 2026/27 and the medium term, providing an important foundation for subsequent discussions.
Sector presentations scheduled for Day One include:
Agriculture, Rural and Urban Development – 11:00 am to 12:30 pm
Energy, Infrastructure & ICT – 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm
Education Sector – 3:45 pm to 5:15 pm
Day 2: Thursday, November 20, 2025
The second day will focus on social and economic sectors, beginning with:
Health Sector – 9:00 am to 10:30 am
General Economic and Commercial Affairs – 11:00 am to 12:30 pm
Governance, Justice, Law & Order – 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm
Day 3: Friday, November 21, 2025
The final day will host discussions on the environment, public administration and social welfare sectors:
Environmental Protection, Water & Natural Resources – 9:00 am to 10:30 am
Public Administration & International Relations – 11:00 am to 12:30 pm
Social Protection, Culture & Recreation – 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm
Meanwhile, the Treasury has urged citizens, civil society, private sector stakeholders and other interested parties to follow the proceedings either in person or online. A livestream link will be shared through the National Treasury’s official website and social media pages.
