Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has asked politicians planning to ferry goons to the funeral of the late Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati tomorrow to cease with immediate effect.

The governor said he was aware that some politicians from the county, with help from outsiders, want to disrupt Chebukati’s funeral and then blame it on him.

“For those coming from outside this county, you should come in as visitors, mourn one of us, and go back to where they came from in a peaceful manner,’’ said the governor.

Natembeya, a fierce critic of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, was heckled on Sunday when he visited the home of the late Malulu Injendi in Malava.

In January during the burial of Wetangula’s mother, he was also heckled by youths when he tried to criticise Kenya Kwanza administration.

The governor spoke at the home of Chebukati’s parents at Kapomboi in Kwanza sub-county. He said Kenyans should set aside their differences and instead embrace peace and tranquility, describing the late Chebukati as someone who cherished peace.

Dignified

The county boss insisted politicians should know that Trans Nzoia is not a sub-county of another county, adding that all visitors are welcome in the cosmopolitan county.

“Being an emeritus former chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, this will be the most dignified event attended by His Excellency the President of Kenya Dr William Ruto and other high level dignitaries from the national government and other parts of the country,” he said.

Chebukati will be buried in Trans Nzoia County tomorrow.
