The Nairobi City County Government has called on residents and stakeholders to participate in a public forum on a proposed environmental and social risk management policy scheduled for Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

In a public notice by the Kenya Climate Change Working Group on Friday, April 17, 2026, the county government said the forum will be held at Charter Hall from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. as part of efforts to gather views on the draft policy before its finalisation.

According to the notice, the proposed policy seeks to establish a strategic framework to guide the integration of environmental sustainability and social safeguards into the county’s planning, investment, and project implementation processes.

Need for the policy

The policy aims to ensure that all development initiatives undertaken within the county are environmentally responsible, socially inclusive, and aligned with national laws and global sustainability standards.

It reinforces the county government’s commitment to responsible stewardship of natural resources, safeguarding residents, and the promotion of resilient and sustainable urban development.

The proposed policy strengthens institutional mechanisms to identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor environmental and social risks associated with county programs, infrastructure development, and private-sector investments.

It also enhances transparency, accountability, and coordination among stakeholders.

Who is invited?

A wide range of stakeholders have been invited to attend, including residents, community-based and faith-based organisations, government agencies, civil society groups, private sector players, professional bodies, academic institutions, and development partners.
