Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru now says that her friendship with President Uhuru Kenyatta is still intact despite having shifted political allegiance to Deputy President William Ruto’s camp.

Waiguru says that while she supports Ruto’s presidency, President Uhuru is a long-term friend and their friendship cannot be broken by political interests.

“President Uhuru does not control people. He will be finishing his term in a few months and he knows the reason I moved to UDA. He wishes me all the best in the path I have taken,” Waiguru said.

The county boss who spoke to a local television station maintained that she has been extremely loyal to the Jubilee party but it became untenable to remain there.

“Having consulted Kirinyaga people, they advised me to leave Jubilee Party for UDA,” Waiguru said.

While stipulating that Jubilee Party has no connection with the people on the ground, Waiguru said UDA does not only have a good relationship with the citizenry but also has the best economic model to move the country forward.

“Lack of connection with the ground is one of the reasons I left. Kirinyaga people felt a disconnect with the party and nothing was being done to revamp the ruling party,” she said.

Waiguru at the same time revealed that she had made the decision to join UDA even before the Mashujaa day celebrations held in Kirinyaga and when she invited DP William Ruto to address the attendants.
