Inmates in Waita GK Prison in Mwingi Central, Kitui County, are now pleading with well-wishers to help them with basic essentials citing tough life behind bars.

Speaking inside the correctional facility shortly after bishops and other men of the cloth in larger Mwingi led by their chair Rev. Stephen Mutisya who visited the facility and donated foodstuffs, the inmates urged well-wishers to remember those in correctional centres.

Bible, hymn books

An inmate, who sought anonymity, urged other religious leaders together with people of goodwill to donate Bible books with both New and Old Testaments and hymn books to them.

He said most of them need religious books to uplift their hope and faith adding being jailed itself can lead to a loss of hope in life.

“I also urge other citizens to avoid being caught on the wrong side of the law because prison is not the best place to be,” he added.

Milka Wanjiru, an inmate who is serving seven years imprisonment said life in prison is not one to admire as there are lots of limitations on freedom.

“We also urge motivational speakers out there to be visiting us quite often,” she urged.
