Former Attorney General Justin Muturi has said residents and business owners in Base–Zimmerman opened up about daily struggles, from soaring living costs to youth unemployment, during a discussion held on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Muturi reflected on the challenges and shared the party’s commitment to a leadership approach grounded in people-centred policies. He said the rising cost of living and unemployment among youths is a clear sign of a government that is detached from the realities of ordinary citizens.

“After the church service, we took time to engage and listen to the residents and business community of Base–Zimmerman in Zimmerman. The conversations were candid and deeply reflective of the struggles Kenyans are facing today, the rising cost of living, unemployment among our youth, and the growing frustration over governance that seems detached from the realities of ordinary citizens,” Justin Mururi wrote.

Mururi also emphasised the need for policies that protect livelihoods while restoring dignity to ordinary citizens, stressing that government decisions should consider their real-life impact.

“As leaders in the United Opposition, we remain firm in our resolve to champion people-centred policies that restore dignity, create opportunities, and protect livelihoods. Kenyans deserve a government that listens, consults, and acts in their best interest, not one that imposes decisions without considering their impact on hardworking families and small businesses,” Justin Muturi wrote.

Muturi emphasised that the opposition will walk the journey with people and ensure there is accountability, economic relief, and a leadership that truly serves the people

“The voices from Base–Zimmerman reaffirm our commitment to walk this journey together with wananchi as we push for accountability, economic relief, and a leadership that truly serves the people,” Justin Mururi wrote.

He added that interaction highlighted the growing disconnect many citizens feel with governance, as well as their desire for solutions that are immediate, practical, and inclusive.

Mururi assured residents that the United Opposition will prioritise engagement with communities to develop policies that directly respond to the everyday realities of families, workers, and entrepreneurs.

He concluded by calling for collective action between leaders and citizens to ensure that governance serves the people’s interests, not only political convenience.
