Muturi announces when United Opposition’s phase 2 voter registration drive will begin
By Faith Lagat, March 8, 2026Former Attorney General and Democratic Party of Kenya leader Justin Muturi has announced that the United Opposition will launch the second phase of a mass voter registration drive later this month as political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election gathers momentum.
In a statement shared on his X account on March 8, 2026, Muturi said the exercise will follow a series of grassroots engagements held in Meru County.
The tour, conducted under the United Alternative Government platform, covered Igembe South, Igembe North, Tigania East and Tigania West constituencies and concluded with a public engagement in Timau.
“The second phase of the mass voter registration drive will kick off at the end of this month, and every eligible citizen must take responsibility and register. Change does not happen through complaints or silence. Change happens through the ballot.”
Muturi described the reception during the meetings as “epic,” noting that residents expressed strong interest in national political developments and upcoming electoral processes. According to him, discussions with residents focused on the cost of living, youth unemployment and access to economic opportunities.
“The people of Timau made it clear that they understand the power they hold in their hands,” he said.

Focus on youth participation
Muturi said the next phase of the registration campaign will begin at the end of March and will encourage eligible citizens to enlist as voters ahead of the next election cycle.
“I urge our young people in particular to seize this moment. Register, prepare, and be ready to participate in shaping the future of our nation,” he said.
He emphasised that electoral participation remains central to political change. “Change happens through the ballot,” he added.
The voter mobilisation drive aligns with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration programme, which seeks to increase the number of registered voters ahead of the 2027 polls. Previous registration exercises have targeted first-time voters, particularly young people who will be eligible to vote in the next election.
Preparations for 2027 elections
Muturi said voter registration is part of preparations for the 2027 election and urged citizens to take part in the electoral process.
“If we want to remove this rogue government and restore responsible leadership, we must prepare ourselves at the ballot box,” he said.
He called on young voters in Meru and across the country to register and participate in the electoral process, noting that civic participation is essential in shaping the country’s leadership.
“The future of Kenya belongs to you, and your voice must be heard where it matters most in the vote,” Muturi said.
The voter registration push comes amid increased political activity by both government and opposition leaders as parties begin early mobilisation ahead of the next general election.
