Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has hailed the success of Haiti Mission, shortly after 230 police officers returned from the Multinational Security Support Mission in the Caribbean country on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

The officers, now renamed the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), were present at the reception event, held at Embakasi A Campus, which was presided over by the Interior CS, who lauded the officers for their discipline, professionalism, and courage.

Murkomen stated that the successful execution of the Haiti mission had earned Kenya recognition both locally and internationally, reaffirming the nation’s long-held confidence in the competence of its security officers.

“The success of the Haiti mission, acknowledged both at home and abroad, reaffirmed what we as a nation have always known: our police officers are among the most professional and dedicated,” Murkomen said.

A mission built on trust and skill

Kenya’s contribution to Haiti’s stabilisation began in June 2024, after which, the then Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, now the Deputy President, deployed the first contingent to the Caribbean nation. The mission demanded high-level skill, courage, and sensitivity as officers worked alongside other global partners to restore order in a country overwhelmed by gang violence.

Murkomen said the returning officers upheld the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and respect for human dignity, attributes that continue to define Kenya’s policing ethos.

”The officers’ discipline, integrity, and respect for the dignity of the people they served stood out, an achievement that speaks volumes about their character, values, and training,” Murkomen added.

Honouring fallen heroes

The ceremony also provided a moment to recognise the ultimate sacrifice made by three Kenyan officers who died while serving in Haiti. Murkomen said the government had met with the families of the fallen officers, offering condolences and assuring them of continued support.

“We honoured the three gallant officers who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty,” he noted, adding that their bravery would remain etched in the nation’s memory.

The return of the officers came just a day after another group of 230 police personnel drawn from various National Police Service formations departed for Haiti. The deployment is part of ongoing efforts to reinforce the GSF and maintain momentum in stabilisation operations.

Murkomen reiterated President William Ruto’s commitment that Kenya would not abandon Haiti during its transition to the new security framework. “Even with the transition to GSF, Kenya will not leave Haiti in a disorganised manner,” he added.

The event brought together key figures in Kenya’s security sector, including National Security Advisor Monica Juma, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Deputy Inspector General (Kenya Police Service) Eliud Lagat, and Deputy Inspector General (Administration Police Service) Gilbert Masengeli, among other senior officials.
