Kanja orders due process in arrests
Earlier, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja directed officers across the country to strictly follow legal procedures when arresting protesters, insisting that every arrest must be backed by evidence and constitutional process.
“If there is any evidence, it must be listed by the police. They have to proceed based on the available evidence, and if there is no case against them, they will have to be set free,” Kanja said during a security inspection in Kitengela.
Arrests reported in Nairobi and Meru
Police arrested several activists outside Parliament Buildings in Nairobi as tensions rose near barricaded government installations, while authorities in Meru confirmed five arrests linked to demonstrations.
