Murathe expresses confidence in Gachagua as one to unseat Ruto

By , November 8, 2025

Jubilee Party Vice Chair David Murathe has told former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that he is the most suitable person to help the united opposition make President William Ruto a one-term president.

While speaking during Justin Muturi’s book launch in Nairobi on Friday, November 7, 2025, Murathe, who in the past had been critical of Gachagua, told him to his face that Jubilee and the United Opposition at large have strong confidence in him, saying he has what it takes to face President Ruto on the ballot.

He further noted that he has known Gachagua for a long time and understands that when Rigathi decides to focus on something, he gives it his all, urging him to focus on the presidency and deliver victory to the united opposition.

“Riggy G tunakutuma hio kazi uhakikishe, mimi najua wewe ukifocus unafocus sana, na tunasema mketi sisi tuko pamoja na nyinyi,” Murathe stated.

Murathe also told the United Opposition principals that they are eagerly awaiting a “white smoke” moment on who will be named the flag bearer, adding that whoever is chosen will receive full support from all quarters to clinch the top seat.

He backed former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s recent warning to Jubilee Party members against insulting leaders of the united opposition, especially Gachagua, saying that anyone who continues doing so risks expulsion from the party, a directive he vowed to uphold as vice chair.

“Uhuru alisema nikisikia nyinyi mnatusi hawa kama Riggy G aende nyumbani.”

His ties with Gachagua

Murathe further revealed that he has had a long history with Gachagua, dating back to when he served as Deputy President, and that Gachagua often confided in him about the frustrations he faced while in office.

He recalled when Gachagua confided to him that he would show up at the airport while carrying his own briefcase, something that Gachagua went ahead and did.

Wewe, Riggy G, umejuwa mahali tumetoka. The last time I met Riggy G was in a private place, and akaniambia, ‘Hii watu wakinichezea mtaniona kwa airport, naenda kama deputy president kufanya kazi ya serikali nikiwa nimebeba suitcase yangu.’ Simliona yeye,” Murathe said.
