According to NPS, the animals that were recovered are being taken to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) Camp in Kainuk, where the identification process is being conducted before they are returned to their owners.

NPS has further indicated that security agencies have stepped up their presence in the area, pointing fingers at the persons of interest whom they believe are associated with the stolen livestock.

Campaign against banditry

The operation is part of an ongoing campaign against stock theft, which remains a threat to livelihoods and insecurity for pastoral communities in the region, the National Police Service (NPS) said.

Police have called on members of the public to assist in the current investigations by giving any information that can help in the recovery of the rest of the animals and the arrest of the persons of interest.

All persons with information are encouraged by the NPS to contact the nearest police station or call the emergency numbers. The information can also be shared anonymously via a toll-free telephone number and a WhatsApp number provided by the service.

The National Police Service once again pledged to cooperate closely with local communities and other security agencies to prevent stock theft and bring those responsible to court.
