Mudavadi slams Gachagua over Al Shabaab remarks
By Arnold Ngure, August 15, 2025Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has castigated Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua over his recent remarks that President William Ruto may have secretly met with leaders of the Al Shabaab terror group.
Speaking during an empowerment drive in Malava constituency on Friday, August 15, 2025, Mudavadi termed Gachagua’s remarks as reckless.
“Al Shabaab killed our children in Garissa, our people in Westgate and Dusit; when he says that the government is in cahoots with the Al Shabaab, yet he was a member of the National Security Council, this is an insult to the young men and women who defend this country everyday in Somalia and along our border with Somalia to make sure that we are able to continue with our lives,” Mudavadi said.
National Security Council
“Where does somebody who used to sit at the National Security Council get the audacity to say such nonsense and expect to be voted for?” he posed.

Mudavadi equally challenged Gachagua to reveal why he was silent about the ties with the terror group when he used to sit in the security council.
“Why didn’t he say all that when he was a member of the security council? We were baffled by his statements abroad, asking ourselves whether he is a Kenyan or a member of a different country,” Mudavadi said.
Clandestine meeting
He also accused Gachagua of misadvising Kenyans in the diaspora to funnel funds into his DCP party instead of sending money back home to their ageing parents.

“That person who went out of the country and has been engaged in misadvising Kenyans in the diaspora to send money to his party instead of their parents back home,” Mudavadi said.
Gachagua had sensationally stated that Ruto had met three Al Shabaab leaders during a tour of Mandera County.
“We are also here to put the Kenyan case to the American government, Congress, and Senate. William Ruto, Americans want to know why you’re working with Al-Shabaab; why, when you’re in Mandera, you met three leaders of the Al-Shabaab militia at night to discuss business with them,” Gachagua said.
