Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has sent a message of condolence to Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago and his family following the death of his mother, Mama Esther Jerotich Tapsiargai Lelei, also known as Gogo Esther Lelei.

In a statement dated February 5, 2026, Mudavadi described the loss of a mother as a deeply trying moment for any family, noting that such a loss calls for strength, unity, and comfort from loved ones and friends.

He paid tribute to the late Gogo Lelei as a woman whose character and values left a lasting legacy within her family and the wider community.

“The late Gogo Lelei will be remembered as a woman who was humble, jovial and gracious, and valued education, having ensured that her children and grandchildren excelled in school. Her efforts have seen her children make progress in different spheres of life in this Country,” Mudavadi said.

He extended condolences to Senator Mandago, family members, relatives, and friends, and prayed for strength during the period of mourning, concluding his message with the words, “Fare thee well, Gogo Esther Lelei.”

Ruto’s condolences

Mudavadi’s message followed an earlier condolence from President William Ruto, who mourned the late Esther Jerotich Tapsiargai in a statement shared on X on January 30, 2026.

“Gogo Esther, the beloved mother of Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, will be remembered as a woman of grace, kind in heart, and enterprising in spirit. Through her guidance and example, she raised upright children and left a lasting imprint of discipline, care, and integrity,” Ruto wrote.

He also shared a message of comfort from Scripture, quoting Job 5:11: “The lowly he sets on high, and those who mourn are lifted to safety.”

“May this word bring peace and steady hope to all who grieve her passing. Rest in eternal peace, Gogo Esther,” Ruto added.

Family confirms passing as tributes pour in

The family confirmed that Mama Esther Lelei passed away at an Eldoret hospital where she had been undergoing treatment.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also sent a condolence message, saying, “The pain of losing a mother is profound and beyond words. May God grant you comfort, strength and peace during this time of immense grief.”

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii and Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea conveyed condolences on behalf of the county government and residents, describing the late Esther as a woman of compassion, strength, and selfless devotion.

Other leaders, including Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator William Kisang, Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich, and Members of Parliament from Uasin Gishu, also sent messages of support to Senator Mandago and his family.
