Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Sunday held a bilateral meeting with Algeria’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ahmed Attaf.

During the discussions, Mudavadi highlighted the country’s strategic position as a commercial hub for East and Central Africa.

He also conveyed Kenya’s strong interest in expanding trade agreements with Algeria.

“On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly today, I held a bilateral meeting with H.E.Ahmed Attaf_Dz, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. During our discussions, I conveyed Kenya’s strong interest in expanding trade agreements between our two nations under the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

“I highlighted Kenya’s strategic position as a commercial hub for East and Central Africa, and extended an invitation to Algerian investors to explore the vast opportunities available in our markets,” he said.

The prime CS additionally drummed up support for Raila Odinga’s African Union Chairmanship (AUC) bid and confirmed Algeria’s support for the former prime minister.

“Furthermore, I sought Algeria’s valuable support for the candidature of the Rt. Hon.
Raila Odinga for the position of Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) in the upcoming elections in February 2025. H.E. Attaf graciously affirmed Algeria’s support for Hon. Raila Odinga’s candidacy,” he said.
