MPs dismiss Building Bridges Initiative as ploy to serve Raila’s interests

Some leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have criticised the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), terming it a political ploy meant to benefit Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Kandara MP Alice Wahome, Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), David Gikaria (Nakuru Town West) and Patrick Mariru (Laikipia West) claimed it was clear BBI was crafted to push for Raila’s interests.

Speaking during a fundraiser at Mukuruwe-ini AIPCA church, the leaders vowed to oppose the proposal to have constitutional amendments to create prime minister and two deputies’ posts.

“We are not going to have a change of the Constitution if that will be the agenda,” said Nyoro.

“I can say without fear of contradiction that the report the BBI purports to be writing after going round the country does not incorporate the views of the people,” he added.

“All these conferences for the select few were a mere show that they are doing something but the agenda had already been set,” Nyoro said.

Butter ambitions

He accused Raila and his allies of trying to hold the country to ransom so that they can push for their agenda.

“I am referring to this as a ‘Blue Band Initiative’ because its being used to butter someone’s political ambitions,” he said.

Wahome said people have the right to chose their leaders and should not be coerced tito supporting anyone.

She said Kenyans have been facing economic hardships and the BBI should have been keen to address such issues.

“We shall support a referendum if only it will help the common person get better services,” she said.

Gikaria lauded the Handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila, which he said sealed a pact of peace in the country.

“This is the handshake that we hold on to for it laid a firm foundation for peace in our country” he said.
