MPs call for free and fair Orange party nominations
Two MPs have appealed to the Orange Democratic Movement ( ODM) party leaders in Kisii County to conduct free and fair nominations ahead of the August 9 elections.
Richard Onyonka ( Kitutu Chache South) and Simba Arati (Dagoretti North) said they will strive to ensure that the party conducts free and fair nominations in the county and urged Governor James Ongwae to leave residents to elect leaders of their choice.
The duo who spoke at a Kisii hotel yesterday during a meeting of the party’s delegates asked the outgoing governor not to interfere with the party’s primaries saying it will compromise Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga’s popularity in the region.
Side-shows
“The most important work for us is to seek votes for Raila to be the fifth President of Kenya in August and not engaging in sideshows,” Arati told the meeting.
Arati, who is eyeing the Kisii County governor’s seat has Onyonka as his choice for Senator and former Nyaribari Chache MP Dr Robert Monda as his (Arati) running mate.
Onyonka, who drummed up support for the Dagoretti North MP said, he was the most popular among the aspirants seeking to succeed Ongwae, warning that it would be unfortunate for any leader to try and deny him the ODM ticket.
Meanwhile, One Kenya Alliance (OKA) and Azimio la Umoja Movement brigades head to Kisii today for a series of public rallies.
The OKA team is expected to hold a meeting at Mosocho grounds in Kitutu Chache South while the Azimio brigade will campaign in Kisii town for Raila’s presidential bid.
