Mosop Member of Parliament Abraham Kirwa has appealed to the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition team led by ODM leader Raila Odinga to stop their criticisms of President William Ruto’s administration just seven months after assuming office.

Speaking to People Daily Digital, Kirwa noted that opposition leaders should stop fighting the current administration including his passage of 2023/2024 budget estimates which aims at transforming the country’s economy.

“It is very embarrassing to hear again that Raila Odinga and his team are planning public barazas which will lead to demos when already Kenyans have moved on after the August polls. We have a government already, why should Azimio keep on destabilising the country through rhetoric type of politics?”Kirwa posed.

The Azimio coalition on Thursday invited Kenyans to a consultation at the Kamukunji Grounds on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, following the passing of the Finance Bill 2023, which the opposition insists is punitive.

The first-term legislator said the government has been doing an exceptional job in uniting the country after last year’s general election, saying it will be of no significance for Azimio to keep on dividing the nation on selfish grounds.

“Kenya Kwanza regime is in to unite our country after heated August polls. You have seen President Ruto form his government by appointing leaders across the political divide which is very vital in national cohesion and peacebuilding. Odinga should just call it a day in politics and give Ruto time to implement his agenda to Kenyans,” he said.

The legislator warned that Azimio’s politics of criticisms is of no help when Kenyans are fighting many challenges including the high cost of living.

“We recently presented our budget as Kenya Kwanza regime in Parliament targeting to get resources to implement our agenda to the electorates. Now the same Azimio are against the budget, they are against the Finance Bill and that is why you have them planning public barazas from next week Tuesday. Surely is that not a waste of time for Kenyans who need assistance “added Kirwa.

The MP criticised Azimio MPs who have opted to join Azimio in opposing the government outside Parliament into the streets instead of tabling bills in the August House to help the country moves forward

“When they were reading the budget, Azimio MPs moved out, during Cabinet Secretaries questioning in Parliament, the same MPs have been absent, surely who will be doing the oversight? Even if it is being loyal to the party leader then that is too much,” the MP added.

Support Ruto’s development agenda

The legislator called on Kenyans to support President Ruto’s administration, saying his promises as captured during last year’s campaigns will be implemented fully.

“This is a listening government and Azimio had been even given an opportunity for bipartisan talks but you saw them pull out. Now they want to go back to the streets, they are not genuine,” Kirwa added.
