Thousands of hunger-stricken people in Mavoko constituency in Machakos county have something to smile about after the national government disbursed relief food following an outcry.

Mavoko MP and a parliamentary service commissioner Patrick Makau while flagging off the consignment at Athi River town, revealed that the food aid will support a section of 500,000 population out of which over 300,000 are jobless.

The MP said most of the urban dwellers were suffering due lack of employment opportunities after most of the factories they relied on in the area were destabilized during Covid 19 pandemic season.

“The food relief will cushion most of the people in the informal settlements here in Mavoko who are not even farmers and rely on employment in the local factories and industries, many of which were brought down by Covid-19 and are struggling to pick up,” said Makau.
