Moses Wetang’ula elected president of Bureau of East African Community Speakers
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has been elected the President of the Bureau of East African Community (EAC) Speakers.
Wetang’ula will be taking over from Dr Tulia Ackson, Speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania.
In a statement shared via his official X account on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, the speaker disclosed that he was elected during today’s proceedings at the 18th meeting of the Bureau of EAC Speakers of National Legislatures and the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) held in Nairobi.
In addition, Wetang’ula stated that he is delighted to lead his colleagues in fulfilling the vision for a prosperous EAC.
“I am deeply honoured to accept the position of President of the Bureau of East African Community Speakers, following my election during today’s proceedings at the 18th Meeting of the Bureau of EAC Speakers of National Legislatures and the East African Legislative Assembly, held at the Emara Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi,” he wrote.
“As I assume this prestigious role, I reaffirm Kenya’s unwavering commitment to advancing the EAC integration agenda.”
He further commended his predecessor for her exemplary leadership and particularly her dedication to fostering unity among the member states adding that it is evident through the successful implementation of the East African Games.
East African Games
The speaker went ahead to announce that Kenya will be hosting this year’s EALA games starting from December 6 to 18, 2024, in Mombasa County.
“It gives me great pleasure to announce that Kenya is prepared to host the upcoming EALA Games in Mombasa. Our coastal city, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and scenic beauty, promises to offer participants an exceptional experience,” he announced.
