Mombasa lobbyists to join Saba Saba protests over tax law
By Reuben.Mwambingu, July 6, 2023Some Mombasa-based civil society organisations have announced plans to hold peaceful demonstrations tomorrow to protest the high cost of living and the implementation of the Finance Act 2023.
The demos are in sync with Azimio’s planned Saba Saba mass action in Nairobi to celebrate freedom fighters, according to the lobbyists.
Yesterday, the organisations, including Concern Citizens Kenya, Social Justice Centre, Fast Action and Together 4 Society notified the Central Police Station Officer Commanding Station of their plans to hold the protest starting from 9.30 am to 11.30 am.
“The peaceful procession will start from Pembe Za Ndovu to Treasury Square where a petition will be presented to the County Commissioner.
We write to request adequate security coverage
Thank you for your continued support,” read the notification addressed to Central Police Station police boss signed by Bradley Ouna of Concern Citizens Kenya, Harriet Muganda of Social Justice Centre and Fast Action and Edwin Shamir of Together 4 Society.
The notification was received at the station, signed and stamped at 10.33 am.
Addressing the press at the police station, the lobbyists asked Mombasa residents to turn out in large numbers and register their concerns against the high cost of living and the Finance Act in general.
