Molo, Kuresoi residents decry pathetic state of road network
Residents of Kiambaa village in Kuresoi North Sub-county are appealing for urgent intervention from the Nakuru County government over the deteriorating condition of local roads, which have become virtually impassable during the rainy season.
Poorly maintained feeder roads in the area turn into muddy, treacherous paths whenever it rains, making transport of people and goods nearly impossible.
The situation has left locals stranded and disrupted essential services, with frustrations mounting among residents.
The residents called on area MCA Emmanuel Langat to visit them and witness their predicament
Led by local resident Jane Wairimu, the community is calling on Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika to act swiftly. Wairimu highlighted an incident where a lorry became stuck in the mud on Monday and remains immobilised days later, despite attempts to pull it out using tractors.
“After each heavy rain, rural roads flood and become completely impassable, leaving residents stranded and unable to travel safely,” said Wairimu.
“We have suffered for too long. This area has been neglected for years.”
Mungai Kang’ethe, another resident, echoed her concerns, lamenting that repeated pleas for road improvements have been ignored.
He cited a lack of proper drainage and surface maintenance as key contributors to the problem.
“Inadequate drainage and surface grading are the root of our suffering,” Kang’ethe said. “Without trenches, culverts, or stabilised surfaces, rains carve gullies and wash out the roads.”
Residents are now urging the county government to implement a permanent solution, including faster disbursement of funds for emergency repairs and regular maintenance, particularly after heavy rains.
Residents of Molo and Kuresoi have, over time, protested over the poor state of roads in their region.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, locals said the Kaprogato-Kapsinendet road is among the worst affected.
Locals said the ongoing heavy rains have affected transportation in the area.
“The roads in Kapsinendet, Block 10, and Daraja Mungu have been rendered impassable,” residents led by Charles Bett Londiani and David Kitur stated.
The two were speaking at Vikingi Tatu and Kaprogato in Mariashoni Ward, Molo Constituency.
They added that the ongoing rains have caused severe disruptions, leaving much of the area’s agricultural produce stored at home and leading to significant post-harvest losses.
The residents have called on both their area MP, Kuria Kimani, and MCA Benard Langat to intervene and address the situation.
